Using the Browser

The main document viewer, as well as several other windows (including this help page), use the built-in Magic Scout browser. The functionality of the browser is the same in all views.

Main viewer

The main document viewer has some unique icons along the bottom left for common features. The house icon brings up the main card list. The 'R' icon brings up the general Magic™ rules. The magnifying glass brings up the Search window.

After you complete a search and select a card, two additional icons may be displayed: magnifying glasses with a left and right arrow. These allow you to skip to the previous or next search result without returning to the search window. These icons will not be visible if you have not completed a search, or if there is only one matching result for your search.

The remaining icons are common in all browser views and are discussed below.

Vertical scrolling

If the page being viewed is more than one screen in size, a scrollbar is displayed. You can scroll using any of these methods:

  • drag scroll: tap anywhere inside the browser window, and drag the pen up or down without releasing. A horizontal line is shown as you drag. When you lift the pen, the screen is shifted up or down the corresponding amount. This is useful to precisely control how much the screen is scrolled.
  • thumb scroll: tap on the dark thumb in the scrollbar, drag it up or down, and release the pen. This will scroll the screen.
  • page scroll: tap and release on either side of the thumb in the scrollbar. This will scroll up or down one page. You can also tap on the small up or down arrow icons along the bottom (not available in all browser views).
  • line scroll: tap on the up or down arrows at the ends of the scrollbar to scroll one line (10 pixels).

    Horizontal scrolling

If the screen is wider than the browser width, then a horizontal scrollbar is displayed. This only happens in the Search results window. Use thumb, page, or line scrolling with the horizontal scrollbar to shift the display accordingly.

    Following links

A link is shown in the browser window in blue with underlining. Tap on the link to jump to the linked document.

    Table headers

The column descriptions for some tables remain displayed at the top of the browser window as you scroll up and down. For example, card titles are kept at the top of their display.

    Viewing history

As you view documents and follow links, your viewing history is recorded. To return to the previously viewed document, tap on the left arrow. To move forward to the next document viewed, tap on the right arrow.
